“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” — Jane Goodall
Environmentalist Chemical Engineer Ph.D researcher
After I received my BASc. in Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry from the University of Toronto in 2008, I started working as a Chemical Engineer at the Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI), in Trinidad and Tobago. During my six years at this company I supervised the commercialization of small-scale technologies and managed research projects. By 2014, I decided I want to make a more meaningful impact on the environment, which led to me pursuing a Ph.D in traffic-related air pollution modelling. In the last four years, I've worked on improving the way air pollution is estimated by statistical models with the hope of reducing exposure misclassification in epidemiological studies. The more accurate and the better we can represent the way air pollution varies across space and time could help researchers discern if a relationship exists between specific traffic-related air pollutants and adverse health outcomes.
KK's Green Piece
Is a Facebook page I created in 2013 to help people become aware of how their actions affect the environment. It is my hope that people will use the knowledge they gain from these articles to help the environment flourish for future generations.
While writing environmental articles online and publishing research about air pollution is one way to make a difference, I've decided to take a leap from publishing papers to producing a documentary. I look forward to this new journey and the wider audience I can impact with the documentary, Clearing the Air.
Let's Make a Difference.
